Summertime Self Care

I don’t know about you, but knowing summertime is right around the corner, is so fun. We experience more sunny days, the grass is greener, flowers have bloomed. I feel like not only is nature growing and flourishing, but we ourselves can too. Here are some tips, to help keep you on track with taking care of yourself, this Summertime.

  • Hydration. Drink your water. Carry a bottle with you, all day every day. This will help with your digestive system, your skin, your energy. There are so many benefits, to drinking enough water.
  • Get active! Strive to have at least 3-5 days of at least 30 minutes of activity.
  • Track and plan ahead. Use an app, a calendar, paper, whatever works for you. Set a goal each week, of how you will get active and how often. Then to hold yourself accountable, track it! For me, when writing things down, I am more likely to stick to the goal.
  • Find a program. If you struggle to find workouts on your own, find a program, then stick to it. The internet is amazing, and there are SO many free programs. Or, if you want to invest and purchase a program, do that too. Whatever works for you. Just find something you can and will do consistently.
  • Mix it up. If you don’t like doing indoor workouts or going to the gym, get outdoors! Go for a walk, jog, bike ride, hike, do yoga outside, do weights outside. Make it fun. Get creative. I have taken a mat and weights to the park MANY times.
  • Have an accountability partner. Find a friend, use your spouse, anyone that can help hold you accountable. Choose someone who is in the same position as you, and looking to make being active a habit. Share success, struggles and push each other. For me, having my workout partner (even if we are not working out together) helps so much.
  • Don’t diet. I hate that word. You are looking to create an attainable lifestyle. Look to eat fresh, non-processed foods. Take advantage of grilling out, going to farmers markets to get fresh produce, anything that helps you eat natural foods. Tis the season.
  • Less TV. For me, if I allow myself to get caught up watching TV, I am not as productive or active.  Get outside in that sunshine. Take a book outside, put on some music, or sit in silence and listen to the birds chirp. Self-care isn’t just physical. It is mental too. You have to take care of your mind. Let your mind find rest. If you are like me, it is hard to ‘turn off’. But it is so necessary.
Sweet Summertime

When you take care of yourself mentally and physically, you will start to see other areas in your life, make a positive change. Your mood will be better. You will have more energy. You will gain more confidence. Being healthy, is not temporary. It should not mean restrictions for yourself. Working out is NOT a punishment to your body. We have to invest in ourselves, our minds, our bodies, if we want to live a fulfilled and happy life. We cannot serve others, when we don’t take the time, to take care of ourselves.

Summertime helps me get motivated. I love being active. I love getting outdoors. Let this season, encourage you and motivate you! I know I speak on these topics a lot, but I truly believe in this. I believe in taking care of ourselves.
