Create Healthy Habits

Are you looking to make a change in your life? Are you looking to create healthy habits, but not quite sure where to start? I have been there myself, numerous times in the past. Sometimes it can be overwhelming to know where to even start, when looking to make a positive change. Creating new habits, doesn’t unfold overnight. It takes time. So let’s start together!

“On average, it takes more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact. And how long it takes a new habit to form can vary widely depending on the behavior, the person, and the circumstances. In Lally’s study, it took anywhere from 18 days to 254 days for people to form a new habit.”—According to jamesclear.com

While having this information, start with one new habit that you want to implement, at a time. Focus your energy on one thing, and give it 100%. Then you can slowly start to incorporate additional changes, that you want to make. When you slowly build on one thing after another, it becomes an easier process.

When setting out goals and new habits, I think it is important to do an overview of yourself—Mentally, Physically & Spiritually. Ask yourself, where would you like to see change and growth? Once you understand that, write out your goals, and be specific. Then from there, generate a plan, that will lead you to achieving these goals.

Another good tip, track your progress. Keep a daily log/calendar/journal of your progress. List what is or isn’t working, write out how you are feeling mentally and physically. Write out anything, that helps you reflect more on this process. Also while tracking, keep your goals visual. Place this on your refrigerator or on a bathroom mirror. Somewhere you can see this daily. This can help hold you more accountable.

When starting a journey of any type of growth, you need to be willing to make sacrifices, while also showing yourself grace. If you fall off, or get distracted, get right back on track. Quitting is worse, than taking a few steps backwards. There may be times though, that you need to say no to things, you once would have said yes to. Understand, when you are focusing in on a specific goal, it is okay to have your priorities shift. The people who want to see you succeed, will be there cheering you on, no matter what.

Friend, if you are wanting to make some positive changes in your life, do not let fear hold you back. Do not compare you Chapter 1, to someone else’s Chapter 20. Focus on your path, and stay the course. You got this!
